Many people aspire to make movies. But they never try because of a combination of fear and a perceived lack of sophisticated equipment. This project proposes to teach a small group of people - up to six - in Brighton how to make a short movie using only their smartphone and a handful of relatively inexpensive apps.
We begin with creating an original idea and script, then proceed to plan and storyboard before filming in Brighton. Once suitable video has been shot, we will edit people's movies on their smartphone.
Films, which will run 4-7 minutes duration, will be shown as a finale of the festival.
I've taught mobile film-making in 20 countries in recent years, and I'm a Brighton resident. More about me here: https://sraquinn.org/2017/05/18/mojo/
The event will last 3 or 4 weeks, to allow people time to get an idea, and then do their filming and editing. We will meet for about four hours initially to get started, then once a week for three weeks thereafter to develop the project and for me to provide the necessary help and training. We'll agree on further dates at our first meeting. I will also be available via mobile phone/Zoom/email for the entire month.
If you're interested in joining this course, email Stephen Quinn at sraquinn@gmail.com by October 29 explaining why you'd like to join. Course numbers are limited to six. This course is for participants aged 18+
anyone who would like to make a video with their smartphone
