The Algorithmic Tales – Online workshops

30/10/2021 - 06/11/2021 // 10:00 am - 12:00 pm @ Online - Zoom

As part of our Digital Democracies Community projects, artist David Blandy will work with the Brighton community to create fragments of stories from his project The Algorithmic Tales via two workshops.

Through drawing, writing, active play, and a Game Jam, we will develop a setting that reflects a vision of Brighton and Mars in the distant future, incorporating sites, personal stories, and myths of the area.

Taking inspiration from the local wildlife, the group will generate self-portraits projected into a far-distant future, where humans have adapted and merged with the area’s flora and fauna. These new characters will then develop new myths, with maps, legendary figures, and illustrations. The project would form future archeology of the site, these imagined protagonists unearthing our present. The Brighton map will become the basis for the map of this imaginary new world.

Produced by Lighthouse and supported through Digital Democracies, a programme led by Threshold Studios and funded by Arts Council England.
Digital Democracies connects three UK-based commissioning festivals, Frequency International Festival of DigitaFreedom Festival and Brighton Digital Festival.

Participants are invited to meet over two sessions on Saturday 30th October and 6th November. The group will gather online to brainstorm, write, draw and compile new future mythology for Brighton and Mars via Zoom and using Padlet to merge ideas.
