29/10/2021 // 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm @ South East Dance (Online)
Join us online for a free discussion about Neon Dance’s Prehension Blooms, a South East Dance commission that uses bio-inspired robotics to explore how we connect with others. Prehension Blooms invites audiences to roam a performance space where they encounter five dancers; an insect-like robot community and each other in playful and unexpected ways. By moving, sitting, lying down and congregating in the space, audiences can influence all aspects of the performance, including light and sound design.
In our discussion chaired by our Artistic Director Cath James, we will hear from Adrienne Hart; Neon Dance’s Artistic Director, Helena Webb; Senior Researcher at Oxford University’s Department of Computer Science and collaborator on the project, Hemma Philamore; a Lecturer in Robotics at the University of Bristol and Bristol Robotics Laboratory, Sebastian Reynolds; a music producer and composer supported by the likes of PRS Open Fund, British Council and Arts Council England and composer of an original score for Prehension Blooms, and Ana Rajcevic; an award-winning artist working at the intersections of sculpture and fashion design. We will explore the ideas behind the piece, including that loneliness not only affects the mind, but also the body and the senses.
